Field Testing

Paving Checklist

Temperature

  • Ambient Air: Does it meet minimums?
  • Pavement Surface: Does it meet minimums?
  • Mix Delivery temperature:
    • Is mix below maximum production temperature?
    • Is mix above minimum paving specifications?
  • Infrared vs Probe thermometer: Confirm calibration of temperature gauges and probe thermometers.
  • Thermal Camera: Operate per mfg’s recommendations.

Mat Density

  • Gauge (Tex‑207‑F, Part 3) QF207-3
  • Establish Roller Pattern Tex-207-F Part 4 QF207-4 Core (Tex‑251‑F, Part I and Part II). QF251 As required, use agency random numbers to locate. Cool surface, proper handling, and chain of command on extracted core.
  • Establish daily and running correlation between gauge and core values.

Segregation

Permeability

  • As required, verify QC testing and QA testing. (Tex-246-F) QF246
  • Porous Friction Course (PFC): Max 20 seconds
  • Thin Overlay Mix (TOM): Min 120 seconds
