Patching

Paving Checklist

  • Review quantities of patching in contract, verify with field inspection, and discuss options at Pre-Pave meeting.
  • Marking patch dimensions: Extend patch edge 6-12 inches into solid pavement on all sides.
  • Keep patch edges out of wheel path.
  • Saw cut edges and excavate to solid base and compact.
  • Add layer of 3-5” size stone/crushed concrete to unstable base if unstable.
  • Tack vertical sides of patches.
  • Place asphalt in lifts (if needed) and compact thoroughly.
  • Leave surface of patch slightly above existing surface (~1/8”)
