Superpave 344

Paving Checklist

Item 344 – Superpave Mixtures

Construction Tips:

  • Production: Verify aggregate type and quality.
  • Trucking: Temperature loss depending on aggregate size, segregation potential
  • MTV/Shuttle Buggy: Highly recommended to help minimize thermal and physical segregation.
  • Paving: B/C mix segregation potential, watch joints closely.
  • Compaction: Potential tender mix, best with heavier rollers (oscillation capability may be required), thicker lifts compromise ride quality. Milled surfaces generally require less compaction effort, rolling pattern will need to be adjusted based on lift thickness.
  • Handwork: Easier to work with lower PG Binder grade, minimal/difficult depending on binder, recommend on avoiding handwork to minimize/prevent segregation
  • Testing (QC/QA):  Density/compaction readings, thermal profiles, segregation profiles.
  • HPG Binder – Seek MTD Approval – See HPG tips.
