Paving Checklist
- Ensure existing pavement is clean and dry prior to tacking.
- Do not overlay recently placed crack seal materials.
- Verify proper tack is used for project – verify bill of lading.
- Verify handling/storage/cleanout procedures with tack supplier.
- Do not dilute emulsions in the field.
- Determine appropriate rate for surface to be paved.
- Verify correct nozzles are used for product and application rate.
- Verify tack bar height (~12 in) and nozzle angle (~30 degrees).
- Tack all surfaces – even same day lift interfaces.
- Tack all vertical edges (curbs, structures, joints).
- Tack vertical face on internal longitudinal joints (except for PFC)
- Verify tack rate and uniformity at beginning of shift.
- Apply tack a minimum of 3 inches wider than mat width to provide for overlap on adjourning mat.
- Verify uniformity of application routinely (distributor and spray paver). No streaks or corn rows.
- Ensure emulsified tack is broke and set before paving.
- Record total gallons used at end of shift.
